"A New Hope" Wire Sculpture by Andreas Deja (c. 2008). Here is a stunning wire sculpture by Disney Legend Andreas Deja. The piece was created by the legendary animator as a commission for the Totoro Forest Project, a Hayao Miyazaki-themed art exhibit benefitting the Totoro Forest Foundation in Japan. The fundraiser was initiated by Pixar Art Director, Dice Tsutsumi and held at Pixar Animation Studios in Emeryville, CA. The Totoro Forest served as the inspiration for Miyazaki's masterpiece, My Neighbor Totoro, the 1988 animated Japanese fantasy film by Studio Ghibli. The wire sculpture measures 16" x 15" x 12" and depicts Deja's interpretation of Satsuki Kusakabe the older sister from My Neighbor Totoro. Andreas Deja is known for creating some of Disney's most iconic characters like the menacing villains Scar and Jafar and the larger-than-life muscle men Gaston and Hercules. This sculpture is located at Heritage Auction's San Francisco gallery. The buyer will be responsible for pick-up or shipment from this location. Heritage Auctions would be delighted to assist with these arrangements.
