Description

Hermann Bernard Prince, Menace Sur Le Fleuve #18 Story Page 17 Preliminary and Barney Jordan Illustration Original Art (Le Lombard, 2010). A unique and highly attractive framed ensemble uniting two key originals from Hermann's landmark Bernard Prince series. The upper work is a full-length color illustration of Captain Barney Jordan, with the legendary ship Le Cormoran in the background. The vessel, a defining symbol of the saga and the setting for numerous adventures, is seldom depicted so prominently alongside Barney, making this composition particularly desirable. Below, the framed storyboard page from Menace Sur Le Fleuve reveals Hermann's creative process. Executed after a hiatus of more than 10 years for the series, this preliminary page-enhanced with black ink over pencil, a technique the artist adopted in the 2000s-offers a rare insight into the "making-of" of the final published color page.
This decorative and cohesive set stands as an emblematic work by Hermann, Grand Prix d'Angoulême laureate, and one of the great masters of European comics. Ink and watercolors on Bristol board with an image area of "14.75" x 11" for the illustration on the top. Total frame size is 23" x 29". Signed. Framed. In Excellent condition.
