Description
John Buscema, Herb Trimpe, and Chic Stone The Silver Surfer #17 Mephisto Story Page 19 Original Art (Marvel, 1970). The Silver Surfer lashes out at Mephisto, who continues to torment the former Herald of Galactus with his lost love, Shalla-Bal. As the Lord of Hell sustains the cosmic blasts, he flees in satisfaction, feeling ever closer to weakening his enemy to the point which he may acquire his soul. Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. unsuccessfully attempt to recapture the Surfer on this penultimate page from "The Surfer Must Kill!" An interesting note: the top panel was reworked before publication, with artist Herb Trimpe providing the drawing of the Silver Surfer. Ink over graphite and blue pencil on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". The top panel consists of a stripped-in top left corner adhered/taped on the back, and the right side of the panel with Mephisto is taped paste-up. Slight toning, pinholes in the corners and chipped top left corner, marginal notes, blue pencil production/editorial marks, whiteout corrections with some chipping in the top panel along the right of the stripped-in piece, with spot staining and handling wear.
