Description

Dave Gibbons Watchmen #8 "Old Ghosts" Death of Original Nite Owl (Hollis Mason) Pages 27 and 28 Original Art (DC, 1987). Such important sequences from the famed Watchmen series do not come on the market often -- this is the first double-page group we've ever offered, and it's a doozy -- the death of Hollis Mason, the original Night Owl from the superhero team the Minutemen. This highly charged event represents the jarring conclusion to the issue, and dramatically juxtaposes the two eras depicted in the series -- the birth of the superheroes and their grim contemporary 1980s existence. This is the cover scene, whereby Hollis's trophy -- symbolizing the earlier period of costumed crime fighter glory -- is used as a blunt weapon to extinguish both his life and the earlier heroic spirit, thus bringing to a head many of the themes found in the much lauded Alan Moore storyline. Such an action-filled sequence, containing poetic shifts back and forth in time and rich with many subtexts, is a major grail for anyone looking for the perfect Watchmen example. These pages have a combined image area of 21" x 16", and they are in Excellent condition.
