Description

It Rhymes With Lust #nn (St. John, 1950) CGC VF 8.0 Off-white to white pages. "Impossible to find" is a term that's bandied about a lot, but have you ever owned or even seen a copy of this rarity? This "picture novel" has been called comics' first graphic novel. It's got 128 pages, 126 of which have art by Matt Baker! As Comic Book Marketplace noted, "This may, in fact, be Baker's best comics art ever; panel by panel, it is certainly his most consistent." This also has the distinction of being the first comic book work by writer Arnold Drake of "Deadman" fame. The black-and-white publication is digest-sized, 5.5" x 7.75". This copy is the nicest of the only two that we've ever seen. Oh, by the way, if you're wondering what rhymes with lust, the title refers to Rust, she's the lady shown on the cover. Overstreet's stated value strikes us as amazingly low. The combination of Baker's popularity and the item's scarcity means the final auction price is sure to leave the Guide price in the dust (rhymes with lust). Overstreet 2010 VF 8.0 value = $704. CGC census 1/11: 1 in 8.0, none higher.
