Description
Dick Sprang Batman #30 Cover Original Art (DC, 1945). Feast your eyes on this, Bat-fans -- a Dick Sprang masterwork from the close of World War II -- and the last of the DC covers promoting the War Loans. This is the first vintage Sprang Batman cover Heritage has offered to date. Considered one of Batman's greatest artists, Dick Sprang did a magnificent job on this scene, based on a loose pencil sketch and written description done by top DC editor Whitney Ellsworth (and included with this lot). Both the sketch and the description were used on page 179 of the recent Paul Levitz book 75 Years of DC Comics. Sprang seems to have given a tip of the helmet to war cartoonist Bill Mauldin, as the soldier seen here bears a remarkable resemblance to those iconic "dogfaces," Willie and Joe. This cover has an image area of 12.5" x 18", and it was inscribed and signed, "To Joe, Dick Sprang." Aside from some light overall aging, the art is in Excellent condition. The pencil rough has an overall size of 5.25" x 8.25", with the sketch on one side, and a written concept on the other. It is also in Excellent condition.Lookup the Comic Book in our Guide
