Description

Carl Barks Voodoo Hoodooed Painting Original Art (1974). For Carl Barks fans, the story "Voodoo Hoodoo" (from Four Color #238, originally released in 1949) has always carried a bit of mystery and intrigue with it. For many years, Disney would not allow the story to be reprinted, so the only way to read this very entertaining tale was to find a (usually) well-worn copy of the Dell comic. As such, it became a must-have item for serious Barks fans. Even when the story finally saw print again in 1987, it was after a number of Disney-mandated changes, so having the original was important. That's why seeing this 1974 painting, based on Barks' original 1949 cover illustration, is such a thrill to those who faithfully tracked down those battered back issues (like this particular Heritage cataloger).
The oil painting itself, listed as #17-74 on the back of the masonite (and listed by fans as CB OIL 85), measures approximately 14" x 18", and is in an ornate gilded frame measuring 19.5" x 23.5". In the painting, Donald and the boys encounter a shrunken Professor McCobb in the jungle. The colors are magnificent, true to the Dell cover but nicely enhanced. If this comic book was special to you, then this painting must be seen and enjoyed for yourself. It's in Excellent condition. From the Kerby Confer Collection.
