Synopsis: Laura wins a scholarship to study acting at the Sorbonne in Paris, so she turns down Phil’s offer of marriage and life on “a large scientific farm” he’ll manage. Laura stays in Paris but has to sing in a café while trying to get an acting job. Actor-director André romances her and gives her the lead in his new play. Phil arrives but steps aside because he thinks Laura loves André. On the night of the premiere, a fire breaks out in the theatre: André proves he’s a coward but Phil rescues Laura and she realises she loves him.
