Characters: Henry Thompson; Susan Thompson; Jamie Thompson; Paul Martin; Mrs. Martin; Timmy Martin; Chief Ranger Parry; members of the search party; Badger Sow
Synopsis: Just before the big storm, the Thompsons head home from their visit at the Martins. Next day two year old Jamie is reported missing since just before the storm. The Ranger directs the search. Lassie sniffs out a badger hole holding Jamie. They catch the badger, a sow, with only two claws on her left front foot, indicating she recently escaped a trap. An illegal trapper was recently caught with a dead male, her mate. Her cubs died while she was trapped. Maternal instinct led her to drag Jamie to safety from the storm, into her den. Jamie is dry and well, and the sow is set free to begin anew.
