STORY DETAILS
Characters: Black Rider
Synopsis: Black Rider's origin retold.

Pencils: Syd Shores; Joe Maneely (see notes)
Inks: Joe Maneely
Notes: Origin story. Caption on splash reads in part, "Now, in answer to your thousands of letters, we present the thrilling tale of how that legend was born!" - Tom Lammers. Disputed credits: Michael J. Vassallo notes: "Joe Maneely splash panel and Shores and Maneely throughout with Maneely doing more than Shores." Jim Vadeboncoeur, Jr Notes: "Doc V's got it all backwards. He's seeing Maneely on the SURFACE throughout because Joe is inking and he's losing sight of Shores because Joe is overwhelming Syd's pencils with his inks. It's a different Maneely because he's inking someone else and being faithful to those pencils. Doc V is not used to seeing that side of Maneely." Nick Caputo is basically in agreement with Jim on Shores pencils and Maneely inks, although he suspect the splash and later pages are all Maneely.
