Albert Uderzo was a French comic artist and writer best known as the co-creator and principal illustrator of Astérix. Born in Fismes in 1927, he grew up near Paris and began drawing early, building the skills that carried him into professional cartooning and illustration. In the 1950s, Uderzo partnered with writer René Goscinny on several projects, including Oumpah-pah, before the duo created Astérix for the new magazine Pilote. The first Astérix adventure appeared in Pilote on October 29, 1959, and the series quickly became one of the defining works of Franco-Belgian comics.
