John Romita Sr. and Harry Rosenbaum - The Spectacular Spider-Man #1 Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1968). For the premiere issue of their new black and white magazine featuring Spider-Man, Marvel brought in "men's magazine" artist Harry Rosenbaum to paint the finished cover. Working from John Romita's tight cover design, Rosenbaum rendered the image in acrylic paint on illustration board, striving to create a striking three dimensional image of the webbed wall-crawler in action. The magazine hit the stands in April of 1968, at the very zenith of the Silver Age. "Lo, this Monster" featured plot elements that made it contemporaneous with the sub-plots in Amazing Spider-Man #59. Harry Rosenbaum also painted the cover for Skywald's Nightmare #4, but it is comic book legend John Romita's terrific composition that captures the excitement and essence of the Spider-Man we all know and love. The image area measures approximately 11.5" x 15", and the lettering "placement indication" is painted on an acetate overlay. The art is in Excellent condition. The cover art for Spectacular Spider-Man #2 commanded a sensational price in Heritage Comics' 2002 Signature auction, and this piece will certainly be a welcome addition to even the most distinguished collection.

Frank R. Paul - Wonder Stories V6#10 Cover Original Art (Gernsback, 1935). Frank R. Paul was the dean of the pulp science fiction artists and he began painting scores of fantastic covers for the Gernsback pulps starting in the twenties. Paul's rocket ships, weapons, and other-worldly creatures were so wildly imaginative that he became the trailblazer for many of the pulp artists that followed. Covers such as this one for "The Eternal Cycle" no doubt inspired the men who became the rocket scientists who finally conquered space flight. Note that Paul's spacecraft is quite similar in size and has several features in common with John Glenn's Friendship 7 capsule. Glenn orbited the earth on February 20, 1962, only twenty-seven years after Frank R. Paul's image of these astronauts hit the newsstands in March, 1935. This oil on canvas painting has an image area of 17" x 23", and the piece is framed. There is some crazing on the painting's surface; otherwise, the art is in Very Good condition. The painting is signed at the lower left, and a copy of the pulp magazine is included with this lot. (Total: 2 Items)

Vaughn Bode - Original Art for Deadbone Erotica, "Rocket Broad, Test Pilot" (Cavalier, 1974). This incredibly beautiful page was originally part of a series that ran in three-page installments in the men's magazine, Cavalier. Bode was a gifted artist who had a totally original style. His influence runs deep today, many years after his tragic untimely death in 1975. The underground art movement known as graffiti in New York City is widely known for its use of Bode's images. This particular example features a lizard character, similar to his famous "Cheech Wizard" riding atop a nearly-nude buxom young lass as they both fly through the clouds. Looks like fun! Delicately drawn in ink, colored pencil, and watercolor on a 13.5" x 16.5" page, with an image area of 9.25" x 12.5" This page is in excellent condition. Dis here is da good stuff, folks!

Earl Norem - Original Cover Painting for Emergency Magazine #4 (Charlton, 1976). Whenever danger threatens and lives are imperiled, you can count on Johnny Gage, Roy DeSoto, and all the other brave men and women of Squad 51, to respond to the "Emergency!" Based on the popular TV series, Emergency Magazine offered the comic book adventures of John, Roy and the rest, to a breathlessly waiting public. Sporting some of the coolest covers of the decade, by the incredibly prolific Earl Norem, this series is fondly remembered by comic collectors and TV fans alike. The piece offered here is in excellent condition, measuring a big 27" x 20" overall, with an image area of approximately 21" x 16.5", and has been signed by the artist in the lower right.

Bill Ward - Original Girly Cartoon (undated). Kirby was known for his dramatic action scenes, Wrightson for his visualizations of unutterable horror, Ditko for his quirky, quasi-hallucinatory renderings. And Bill Ward? Bill has always been known for drawing the biggest, bustiest, most bodacious babes ever to grace a comics page! Offered here is a one-panel gag strip Bill did for one of the many men's magazines that populated the newsstands in the 1950s and early 60s. Much to the delight of the surrounding men, this luscious lass can barely contain herself. Ward's earlier humor work is quite popular and hotly collected, so don't let this beauty pass you by! Beautifully rendered on Craftint board, this piece is signed by the artist in the lower right.

Unknown Artist - Stocking Parade Illustration Original Art (Arrow Publications, circa 1950). Here is a lovely image of seven fetching lingerie-clad women from the vintage men's magazine Stocking Parade. This piece of art is in Good condition, with chipping around the edges of the board,- and a large glue stain at the top from a lost stat or pasted-over artwork. However, the carefree beauty of these women is not diminished by any condition problems! The piece measures 26" x 18.25" and is sure to please any connoisseur of fashionable femmes.
