Bob Kane (American, 1915-1998)
Comic Book Art
(American, 1915-1998): was the Golden Age comic book artist and writer, credited as the creator of the iconic DC superhero Batman. One of the most financially successful comic book creators, Kane worked much like a newspaper syndicate cartoonist, in that he often relied on or directed the efforts of a pool of uncredited creators, including writer, and some say Batman co-creator, Bill Finger, and artists Jerry Robinson, George Roussos, Shelly Moldoff, and Lew Sayre Schwartz. As Kane's DC comic book production tapered off in the sixties, he parlayed his Batman status into minor celebrity. He had a post-comic book career in TV animation, creating the characters Courageous Cat and Cool McCool. As an easel painter, he showed his work in art galleries. In 1989, Kane published his autobiography Batman and Me, with a second volume Batman and Me, The Saga Continues, in 1996
