Alex Raymond (American, 1909-1956)
Comic Book Art
Alexander Gillespie Raymond (American, 1909-1956): An American comic strip artist and illustrator celebrated for his outstanding work on Flash Gordon, Secret Agent X-9, Jungle Jim, and Rip Kirby for King Features Syndicate. Raymond is hailed as "an artist's artist," and his much-imitated, but seldom equaled style provided a legacy that would influence subsequent artists, especially those of the dramatic soap opera styled comic strips of the fifties and sixties.
