Daredevil Comics #1 Mile High pedigree (Lev Gleason, 1941) CGC VF/NM 9.0 White pages.
Before Matt Murdock ever donned his dark red tights, there was another Daredevil... a Daredevil that was a dead-shot with a boomerang and wore a spikey belt. From the ever-fruitful mind of Charles Biro, Daredevil, in his red-and-blue costume, cut a swath through crime a mile wide before being edged out of his own book by the Little Wise Guys. But prior to that, Daredevil teamed up with Silver Streak, Lance Hale, Cloud Curtis, Dickey Dean, and the Pirate Prince to battle the most evil villain of all time -- Adolf Hitler! Hailing from the prestigious Mile High collection, this is a killer book, from its Hitler photo cover to its battle between Daredevil and the Claw to its "Origin of Hitler" feature story. Its beautiful appearance and snow-white pages make this a key Golden Age book that any collector would be proud to own. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $14,500.

An amazing early Timely cover which displays Alex Schomburg at his best. The Human Torch melts through the cell's metal walls to aid the imprisoned female; but wait, is it a trap for the Torch? The cell walls open up to the flood the room, and extinguish the Torch's flame for good! Not only is this by far the highest-graded copy by CGC to date, but it has exceptional page quality and colors that look as though they were put on the paper yesterday. Young Allies Comics #1 (Timely, 1941) CGC VF/NM 9.0 Cream to off-white pages.
One of the truly great covers from the Golden Age kicks off one of Timely's favorite titles, which provides the origin and first appearance of the Young Allies, those "Fearless American Boys Fighting for Democracy." Simon and Kirby pull no punches with a senses-filling Hitler/Red Skull/bondage cover, plus interior work. Captain America and the Human Torch first meet in this issue. Gerber rates this book as "uncommon," and with the grade here being the highest that CGC has yet assigned to this milestone issue, making this quite possibly the finest copy in existence, this is sure to be one of the most sought-after prizes in the auction. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $15,000.

If you are looking to acquire the absolute best of the best, you have found it with this book. Not only is this the most superlative copy that CGC has graded to date (by a long shot), there is precious little chance that another one this good will come on the market anytime soon. So, if you buy this book, you are virtually assured to have the nicest copy around, and be the envy of the whole comic collecting community. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $1,400.

Marvel Mystery Comics #9 (Timely, 1940) CGC FN+ 6.5 Off-white pages.
Overstreet rates it a "classic" cover, and Schomburg didn't do it! The credit goes to Bill Everett, artistic interpreter of the Sub-Mariner over four decades. Everett has the Human Torch and Subby fighting again. Boys! Can't we just get along? Keep it up, and you'll never make it to the Silver Age! "Scarce," according to both Gerber and Overstreet, only two copies of the issue have fared as well as a Very Good in CGC's certification so far, and this is the highest-graded of the two. Overstreet 2002 FN 6.0 value = $6,000.

All-Negro Comics #1 "D" Copy pedigree (All-Negro Comics, 1947) VF- 7.5 Off-white pages.
The epitome of esotericity, this one-shot's back cover promised features on Ace Harlem, Sugarfoot (no, not Will Hutchins), and Snakeoil in the following issue, which, alas, never was published. Not many of this 15-cent oddity were published, and Gerber gives the book an almost unheard of rating of "very rare," signifying that only 6 to 10 copies are estimated to still be in existence. To further enhance the allure, Overstreet advises the book is "seldom found in fine or mint condition; many copies have brown pages." So this pedigree jewel transcends expectations on just about any level you can imagine, and might be the finest copy in existence. Overstreet 2002 VF 8.0 value = $3,438.

This is a nice, solid copy with an iconic cover by Will Eisner and Lou Fine. The black background accentuates the colorful imagery of this classic premiere issue, which set the standard for the future issues of this title. The Origin of Auro, Lord of Jupiter, was told on the interior pages with art by Dick Briefer. Collectors rarely part with any of their

All Select Comics #1 (Timely, 1943) CGC VF 8.0 Off-white pages.
Captain America, Human Torch and the Sub-Mariner are kicking some serious Nazi behind on this classic Alex Schomburg cover. Except for a tiny chip on the top corner of the spine on the front, and some light wear on the top edge of the back cover, this premier issue is a beauty. The Timely mystique is captured, quite exceptionally, in the action of this truly patriotic World War II propaganda for kids. Overstreet 2002 VF 8.0 value = $6,500.

Crypt of Terror #19 Gaines File pedigree 1/11 (EC, 1950) CGC NM+ 9.6 Off-white to white pages.
This is the last issue of the title that would become
Tales from the Crypt
with the next issue, and it features Craig, Feldstein, and Ingels art. Gaines copies are known for their near-absence of structural defects (like this one!), but it is not often remarked about how beautiful the colors and pages are on these copies (like this one!). We must, however, warn you not to attempt to carry this onboard a plane, as airport security will require you to check the razor-sharp corners of this book. According to the CGC census as of this writing, there are two copies in 9.6 and two copies in 9.8. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $1,900.

Special Edition Comics #1 (Fawcett, 1940) CGC VF/NM 9.0 Cream to off-white pages.
A one-shot of Captain Marvel cover to cover, this is a great key issue for any Fawcett collector. Published a few months after the Big Red Cheese made his debut in
Whiz
#2, there is speculation that this book was meant to be
Captain Marvel
#1, but due to an editorial change at Fawcett, a second #1 was created by Jack Kirby. This gorgeous copy has deep colors and a clean cover. The spine is tight, and the edges are sharp, everything a book in this grade should be. The slightest edge wear and a dust shadow on the back cover are the only defects that can be noticed through the case. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $10,500.

Famous Funnies: Carnival of Comics #nn (Eastern Color, 1933) CGC VF- 7.5 Off-white pages.
It would be five years before the Golden Age of comics would even begin when, in 1933, this collection of newspaper reprints would be issued as a giveaway. Regarded as the second comic book, this promotional giveaway was M. C. Gaines' brainchild. Gerber's,
The Photo-Journal Guide to Comic Books
lists this as "rare," with only 11 to 20 copies estimated to exist. If you are looking for early and rare, here is the one for you. From a historically significant perspective, this would appear to be an undervalued nugget. Overstreet 2002 VF 8.0 value = $5,480.

Namora #3 Mile High pedigree (Timely, 1948) CGC NM- 9.2 White pages.
It seemed a good formula: "good girl" action with such luminaries as Bill Everett, Ken Bald, and Mike Sekowsky providing the art, and Sub-Mariner as a backup feature; but the title would only last three issues. Gerber rates the book as "scarce," and sure enough, this is the only copy of any of the issues to see the light of CGC's offices. Breathtaking Mile High Timely. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $1,450.

Captain Midnight #2 Mile High pedigree (Fawcett, 1942) CGC NM+ 9.6 Off-white pages.
Captain Midnight stands guard over the planet, in this striking cover from the early years of WWII. Gorgeous colors amplify the patriotic theme. The "Jap Juggernaut" is about to get more than it can handle from Fawcett's radio and movie star. This is the only copy of issue #2 that CGC has certified, but when other copies show up, it is unlikely this beauty will be unseated from its current #1 perch in the census. Four Color #2 Mile High pedigree (Dell, 1939) CGC NM 9.4 Off-white to white pages.
This second issue of comicdom's longest-running title features Don Winslow, and is listed as "rare" in the Overstreet. Printed during the peak years of the Mile High collection, this copy represents outstanding qualities, such as a perfectly clean cover (free of dust shadows), and colors that look like they were just printed. Slight wear around the middle staple and along the bottom edge are the defects worth mentioning on this stunning copy. Most likely the best existing copy around. Marvel Mystery
# 4 from February, 1940. This issue sports a momentous battle between Magician from Mars and the Elemental Monster. There are a couple of dust shadows on the back cover and some wear around the top staple on this otherwise gorgeous book. Mystic Comics #1 Nova Scotia pedigree (Timely, 1940) CGC VF- 7.5 Off-white to white pages.
This is undoubtedly one of the of the great Timely key issues of the Golden Age! Having published pulps throughout the 1930s, Timely had a tendency to borrow heavily from the pulps when they designed their early comic covers. This is a near-exact swipe from an earlier pulp, featuring our hero jumping into what seems like a hopeless situation. Exhibiting all of the fine qualities associated with Nova Scotia books, this one suffers from a small "hangnail tear" piece out of the top of the back cover, but is otherwise Near Mint. In fact, this book was sold as a "Near Mint" by a prominent dealer in the days before CGC. First appearance of Blue Blaze, Dynamic Man, Flex and Dakor. Alex Schomburg art. Thus far, CGC has not found a better copy, and considering its provenance, they probably never will. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $925.

All Winners Comics #21 "D" Copy pedigree (Timely, 1947) CGC VF+ 8.5 Cream to off-white pages.
Syd Shores does a Schomburg-like job of cramming action and characters onto this riveting cover. The bondage-covered issue is Overstreet "scarce" and Gerber "rare," which means whichever source you rely most upon for your scarcity index data, there ain't many of this issue out there! At this writing only two copies of issue #21 are rated more highly in CGC's census report. Overstreet 2002 VF 8.0 value = $2,188; NM 9.4 value = $4,200.

Miss Fury #6 (Timely, 1945) CGC NM+ 9.6 Off-white pages.
Miss Fury swings into action on this Schomburg cover, busting up a robbery in progress. We imagine this superheroine had many adolescent fans in her day, especially considering her black costume. Grading out at a jaw-dropping NM+ 9.6, we must warn you that this book may cause whiplash when displayed. Perfect in almost every way, it is easily the nicest CGC has ever graded so far, and may be the nicest in existence. If you want the best, here it is. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $950.

Bulletman #9 Mile High pedigree (Fawcett, 1942) CGC NM 9.4 White pages.
Bulletman and his pretty partner Bulletgirl fly into action on this cover, as they battle the canine criminals! This copy is a shining example from Edgar Church's massive Mile High collection, exhibiting a freshness and tightness typically found only on brand-new books. The spine is flawless, with perfectly set staples, and razor-sharp edges. A tiny nick at the top edge of the front and back covers are the only visible defects. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $850.

Captain Flight #11 Big Apple pedigree (Four Star, 1947) CGC NM- 9.2 White pages.
Overstreet and Gerber agree that this is one "scarce" issue. That's too bad because it's also one sensational book. An exhilarating L. B. Cole cover is the primary reason, and the Big Apple collection makes another case for inclusion among the premier pedigrees with this stunning copy. No other copy of issue #11 in CGC's latest census even earns a Very Fine. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $1,150.

Top-Notch Comics #4 Mile High pedigree (MLJ, 1940) CGC NM- 9.2 White pages.
This fantastic copy, from the historic Edgar Church pedigree collection, is the highest-CGC-graded copy to date. This issue features a great cover by Edd Ashe. The cover is doubly desirable due to the Nazi U-boat image. This glossy, colorful comic will make a welcome addition to any Golden Age collection. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = 1,450.

Wham Comics #1 Denver pedigree (Centaur, 1940) CGC NM 9.4 White pages.
Centaur, famous for their many titles produced during the late 1930s, including
Detective Picture Stories
and
Funny Pages
, produced this comic at the height of 1940s superhero boom, featuring "64 fast action pages" of the Sparkler, Speed Centaur, and Detecto. This copy came from the famous Denver collection of #1 issues, and appears near-perfect. Outside of a very light dust shadow on the back cover, there are few defects that can be seen through the case. It's the highest-graded copy on CGC's most recent census report, and could very well be the best existing in the world. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $1,750.

Captain America Comics #33 Mile High pedigree (Timely, 1943) CGC FN 6.0 Off-white pages.
When was the last time you saw a
Captain America
from the Mile High collection come up for sale? As most of them are locked up in a private collection, they seldom appear on the market. This copy, while not perfect, has most of the attributes of the pedigree that put pedigrees on the map. A few small edge tears are what hold this one down in grade, but the colors are vibrant and the pages are off-white. The classic cover by Alex Schomburg is a favorite of many collectors. Don't miss out on this rare opportunity to add one of Edgar Church's
Cap
s to your collection. Overstreet 2002 FN 6.0 value = $546.

Quality Comics' second-oldest comic book title spotlighted the Black Ace, Bozo the Robot, Wings Wendall, Archie O'Toole, and Abdul the Arab on its second issue. If you don't recognize the characters, you will at least recognize the pedigree of this awe-inspiring copy from the Mile High collection. It is the nicest copy of issue #2 that has yet emerged for CGC certification. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $1,100.
