Amazing-Man #5 Mile High pedigree (Centaur, 1939) CGC NM 9.4 Off-white to white pages.
This rare Golden Age gem contains the first appearance and origin of one of the very earliest super heroes, A-Man, the Amazing-Man. Appearing at roughly the same time as Batman, Amazing-Man hit the scene before the superhero floodgates opened up in 1940. Ultra scarce, this key comic contains fabulous artwork by comic legends and Timely Sub-Mariner creator Bill Everett (who does the Amazing-Man story), Tarpe Mills (Cat-Man), and Carl Burgos (Iron Skull). This Mile High pedigree copy is nearly flawless and has the distinctive distributor mark pencilled neatly on the cover. Undoubtedly the most desirable of all Centaurs due to its rarity and historical significance, copies of
Amazing-Man
#5 seldom trade hands. Locked away and unavailable for years, this is the first time that this copy has been available for almost a decade. In his
Photo-Journal Guide To The Comics
, Gerber assigned this book an 8 on his Scarcity Index, meaning that he estimates that less than 20 copies are still in existence. Don't miss this opportunity to buy one of the best books from the very best collection in existence. Seasoned collectors will recognize this copy as definite Blue Chip material; expect some competitive bidding on this choice item. Overstreet NM 9.4 value = $19,000.

The Amazing Spider-Man #1 (Marvel, 1963) CGC NM- 9.2 Off-white pages.
Continued over from
Amazing Fantasy
#15, Spidey's first issue features a guest appearance by the Fantastic Four and his first costumed villain, the Chameleon. A truly amazing book! Early Silver Age Marvels are just impossible to find in decent grade for so many reasons, including low print runs, low paper quality, overhangs, "Marvel chipping" and, of course, the fact that every kid read the heck out of them. This copy appears near flawless -- we dare you to find any defects bad enough to keep it from a NM 9.4. Even the usual transfer stain that causes yellowing is absent. Considering what a NM 9.4
Spidey
#1 would fetch, this copy is certainly a bargain, whatever it brings at auction. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $28,000.

Amazing Fantasy #15 (Marvel, 1962) CGC VF/NM 9.0 Off-white pages.
Spider-Man makes a dramatic entrance on the cover of this, his very first appearance and origin. Stan Lee and Steve Ditko's creation has found a permanent place in the annals of pop culture history. With the record-breaking release of the "Spider-Man" movie, and a sequel already announced, this book has eclipsed all other keys of the Silver Age. The sky is the new limit on this book, as there are very few high-grade copies in existence, and a huge number of parties looking to acquire them. Even the record-breaking prices of last year now seem like quite a bargain. A nice, high-grade copy like this can only continue to skyrocket its way above and beyond all others. This incredibly pristine book is truly beautiful. It has tremendous eye-appeal, without even the slightest hint of "Marvel chipping". It has excellent page quality, and a smooth, tight spine with very few stress lines. If you are looking to invest in the best of the best, this is the one for you. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $42,000.

Gene Autry Comics #1 Mile High pedigree (Fawcett, 1941) Condition: NM Off-white to white pages.
Gene Autry was one of the most famous Cowboy stars from the 1930s and 1940s and this title ran for over a hundred issues. A truly beautiful book artistically, made breath-taking by the Mile High attributes of deeply saturated color, and mirror-like gloss. This is also considered to be a very rare book, and nearly impossible in this grade. This exquisite Mile High pedigree features the distinctive distributor mark neatly pencilled on the front cover and because the book is oversized it could not fit in a CGC holder. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $9,500.

Showcase #4 Ohio - Fairborn pedigree (DC, 1956) CGC VF 8.0 Off-white to white pages.
Ushering in the Silver Age, this book re-introduced the Flash to a new group of readers, and handed the mantle to Barry Allen, who would wow fans for 30 years before meeting his demise in the Crisis series. The success of
Showcase
#4 gave Julius Schwartz the impetus to revive many of DC's old superheroes throughout the 1960s, breathing new life into the superhero genre. High-grade copies of this book are very scarce, with only one graded NM 9.4 by CGC as of this writing. Of the 43 graded by CGC, only three are rated higher than this one -- a truly exceptional copy of one of the most important books printed during the Silver Age. Overstreet 2002 VF 8.0 value = $12,500.

Green Hornet Comics #1 Mile High pedigree. (Holyoke, 1940) CGC VF+ 8.5 Off-white to white pages.
Edgar Church's copy of this book is by far the highest grade copy that CGC has ever seen. It is in truly immaculate condition; this is one beautiful book. This comic features the origin and first appearance of Green Hornet and Kato, and the introduction of the Black Beauty, Green Hornet's famous car. This beautifully painted cover is totally unmarred by defects that would draw away from its impact. The folks at CGC were very tight when assigning this grade, as it is sharp, glossy, and of course has incredible page quality. The back cover is perfectly white and clean. Overstreet VF 8.0 value = $3,000.

Journey into Mystery #83 (Marvel, 1962) CGC VF/NM 9.0 White pages.
Making his introduction Marvel style, the mighty Thor swings into action on this classic Jack Kirby cover, wiping out a horde of Stone Men from Saturn!
Journey into Mystery
#83 has always been extremely popular among collectors, and remains one of the most valuable comics of the 1960s. This copy is extremely tight, with near-perfect edges, and a slight bend along the spine -- the one defect that most likely knocked it out of the NM range. Considering how difficult early Marvels are to find in high grade, this one must be considered quite exceptional. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $6,300.

Fantastic Four #1 (Marvel, 1961) CGC VF 8.0 Cream to off-white pages.
This is the book that kicked off the glorious Marvel Age of the sixties, and began a trend that would take Marvel to the top of the publishing business by the end of the decade. One of only a small handful of Marvels with a ten cent cover price,
FF
#1 is very difficult to find, especially in grade. Jack Kirby began his legendary run on this issue, which features the origin and first appearance of Mr. Fantastic, the Invisible Girl, the Human Torch, and the Thing. This is a nice, solid, unrestored copy which would be a great addition to any collection. Take home the first of the Marvel keys. Overstreet 2002 VF 8.0 value = $8,800.

From the early days of the pulps, Doc Savage makes his comic book debut in this issue, which features a very pulp-like painted cover. An additional feature of note in this issue was an adaptation of
Treasure Island
. Not often found, this copy is in exceptional shape, as you would expect of a Mile High copy. A real prize of the auction. Overstreet 2002 VF 8.0 value = $3,000.

Century of Comics #1 (Eastern Color, 1933) CGC FN/VF 7.0 Cream to off-white pages.
This scarce book almost never shows up for sale; Gerber rated it a 7 on the Scarcity Index in his Photo-Journal, but 8 probably would have been more accurate on this rare piece. In fact,
Century of Comics
is so rare in high grade that the Overstreet Price Guide doesn't even list a NM 9.4 price. It was the third comic ever printed, and was originally given away as a premium by companies such as Wheatena, Milk-O-Malt, John Wanamaker, Kinney Shoe Stores and others. The contents include Joe Palooka and Mutt and Jeff reprints. Overstreet 2002 FN 6.0 value = $11,000; VF 8.0 value = $22,000.

Four Color #9 (Dell, 1942) CGC VF+ 8.5 Cream to off-white pages.
This is a spectacular copy of a very significant comic that rarely turns up for sale. At the time of this writing, there is only one copy known to exist which grades higher than this one. It includes the first work on Donald Duck by "the good duck artist", Carl Barks. This copy is flat, clean and glossy with sharp corners and great eye-appeal. If you love ducks, you don't want to miss out on this one. Overstreet 2002 VF 8.0 value = $4,670.

Hopalong Cassidy #1 Mile High pedigree (Fawcett, 1943) CGC VF/NM 9.0 Off-white to white pages.
One of the most successful western comics ever published,
Hopalong Cassidy
enjoyed a 16-year run, initially under the Fawcett flag until DC acquired the title in 1954. Tough to find in any grade, this copy from the Mile High collection is stunning, and could be the best existing copy. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $6,000.

Crackajack Funnies #9 Mile High pedigree (Dell, 1939) CGC NM/MT 9.8 Off-white to white pages.
The condition makes this book truly unique. Even by the lofty standards of the Mile High collection, this book stands out. This is the first appearance of Red Ryder in comics and his first cover appearance. The preservation on this book is without equal. It is extremely difficult to find a comic from the '50s or '60s in NM/MT 9.8, but this book is from the 1930s. Only Edgar Church could have preserved a comic in this way. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $1,500.

Blackhawk #9 Mile High pedigree (Quality, 1944) CGC NM- 9.2 Off-white to white pages.
One of the great comics published during the 1940s, Blackhawk outsold most competitors at its peak, a feat that can certainly be attributed to the talented group of individuals who brought him to life. Will Eisner created him, although Bob Powell played a significant roll in shaping the Polish flyer and his diverse team of fighters. A fantastic run of comics,
Blackhawk
has long been undervalued in the Guide. Offered here is the first issue of that seminal series, (previously Uncle Sam), one that would continue well into the 1960s under the DC banner. This is a great opportunity to obtain a beautiful key issue from the Mile High collection, something that doesn't come around often because of the great investment potential of these books. A stunning copy with a clean white cover and perfect spine, this book is a beauty. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $4,000.

Amazing Fantasy #15 (Marvel, 1962) CGC VF- 7.5 Off-white pages.
Without question, this is the most sought-after comic book printed during the Silver Age. Many factors make this issue tough to find in decent grade, including low distribution, cover layout, low paper quality, and the infamous "Marvel chipping". Because Spidey's first appearance happened to be in the final issue of a failing monster title, its print run was considerably lower than traditional key issues, making this a particularly special find. Rendered with an unusual array of brown and gray colors on the front cover that easily smudge and show wear, makes the book very susceptible to amateur restoration. But this copy is one of the few that was fortunate enough to survive the ages untouched and in high grade. There is no "Marvel chipping" on this copy, and very few imperfections. The corners are sharp, and the color registration is very nice. A truly amazing book, this copy can be had for a fraction of what slightly better copies cost. Overstreet 2002 VF 8.0 value = $13,200.

America's Greatest Comics #1 Mile High pedigree (Fawcett, 1941) CGC NM 9.4 White pages.
Stunning! Any seasoned collector knows how difficult it is to find squarebound comics in decent grade. This could be the best existing copy, appearing as fresh as the day it was printed. This was Fawcett's first squarebound comic, and the first time that all of their superheroes appeared on a cover together, done in response to the growing popularity of superhero teams. A truly magnificent book, this one could be yours...if the price is right. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $3,200.

It is truly amazing that even the Mile High copy is this nice. The condition of this book is truly overwhelming. The pages are perfectly white, the spine is totally free from stresses, the edges and corners are perfect; this has the look of a brand new comic. This issue marks the beginning of Terry and the Pirates, Dick Tracy, Smitty, the Gumps, Little Orphan Annie, Smilin' Jack, Gasoline Alley, and many more. This is a first issue from 1938 that ran for over a decade, the Edgar Church Mile High pedigree, and it is in basically perfect condition; what a combination! Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $2,600.

Here is one serious book for any Disney collector; Mickey Mouse's first comic book! So infrequently found in high-grade condition, Overstreet doesn't even fool with listing a Near Mint price. This issue's 68-page thickness stressed a lot of spines, but this copy remains tight. The most sought-after issue in the illustrious

Centaur's unique brand of comic books graced the stands for much of the late '30s, packed with great art and cool characters like the Arrow and Amazing-Man. But thanks to a shoddy distribution system, the company faded out during the Superhero boom. As a result, finding Centaurs in high grade can be an incredible challenge. This copy of
Detective Eye

Timid Peter Parker's early beginnings are the stuff of legend -- from the wrestling match to that infamous showdown in the old abandoned warehouse, which led to his realization that "with great power...comes great responsibility"! After enjoying success in the pulps, Sunday strips and a run in Famous Funnies, Buck Rogers earned his own series, featuring reprints of the Rick Yager strips. This copy ranks among the best of the Mile Highs, with a perfectly preserved cover that appears as if it had been printed yesterday, and the characteristic arrival code in the upper left. What a stunning book. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $1,200.

Future Comics #2 Mile High pedigree (David McKay Publications, 1940) CGC NM- 9.2 White pages.
A totally bizarre comic, even by 1940s standards, this cover has to be seen to be believed. Do they really have chickens on Saturn? This guy must think so. David McCay, a strip publisher, decided to step off the beaten path for this series, which only ran for four issues before the company decided to return to more traditional fare. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $1,350.

Fantastic Four #49 (Marvel, 1966) CGC NM+ 9.6 Off-white pages.
Silver Surfer and Galactus get their first cover feature on this issue. It is also the second appearance for both. To find a copy like this is a real miracle. This book is particularly difficult to find in any grade above Fine because of the dark nature of the cover, but in this grade it is basically impossible. According to the latest update to the CGC census, they have not graded any copies of this book higher, meaning that you will be really getting the best of the best with this one. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $340.

A Dave Innes of Pellucidar story written by Edgar Rice Burroughs appears in this issue. There is artwork by John Coleman Burroughs (ERB's son), and Jack London's Seawolf is told. This is the only issue of this title; it was

with #3. This is a fantastically high-grade copy from the renowned collection of Edgar Church. It looks like there might be some minor handling wear, but it is otherwise perfect, with almost perfect page quality. Overstreet 2002 VF 8.0 value = $738.

Junior #11 (Fox Features Syndicate, 1948) CGC NM+ 9.6 Off-white to white pages.
Al Feldstein created a memorable cover for this "good girl" classic. Overstreet says that this entire run has headlight covers, I guess you can decide for yourself if this one does. The image is a classic 1940s beauty, with her high boots, short skirt and mittens. Al Feldstein is also responsible for the interior artwork inside this fantastic Golden Age comic. This high quality book is the very nicest copy that CGC has graded so far, and it will be difficult to surpass. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $750.

Tales of Suspense #39 (Marvel, 1963) CGC VF+ 8.5 Off-white to white pages.
One of the most important Marvel characters, Iron Man makes his impressive debut in this key. This an extremely sought-after book that has remained affordable considering its relative scarcity. Jack Kirby did the cover, and Don Heck handled the interior artwork. This copy is incredibly nice, even by the Very Fine+ standards. The overflash at the top is basically perfect, with no creasing. The corners are sharp, pages are beautiful, there is no "Marvel chipping", and the book is clean and bright. The only thing keeping it from the Near Mint range is some extremely minor wear to the spine. An incredible issue that deserves a place in your permanent collection. Overstreet 2002 VF 8.0 value = $2,842.
