John Buscema and Joe Sinnott - Original Cover Art for Silver Surfer #1 (Marvel, 1968).
Heritage Comics Auctions is very proud to offer one of the most significant pieces of original artwork ever to be placed at public auction. This classic scene is beautifully elegant with Buscema's idealistic rendering of the Silver Surfer as he soars down from outer space on his cosmic board straight at the on-looker. This first issue would establish the high level of excellence for the entire series, an all-time favorite among collectors. Buscema's work is considered by many as the absolute purest and most classic ever to be done on the Sentinel of the Spaceways. This piece will likely always be an icon, fondly remembered as one of the pinnacles of the Silver Age of comic book artwork. Pencil, pen and inks on heavy illustration paper with title stats intact, but other type stats are not present, as if they were done on a separate overlay (not included). Therefore, this piece is offered in its purest state. Art is in excellent condition with no pieces out, no tears, no creasing and no heavy white-out corrections. There are 4 punch-holes in the paper (2 at top margin and 2 at bottom margin) that do not affect the artwork, and were probably used when photographing the cover for the printing production. Image size measures 9 3/4" X 15".

The Amazing Spider-Man #1 (Marvel, 1963).
Spectacular first issue as Marvel Comics' most sensational hero is awarded his very own title. Spidey must face the challenge of the entire Fantastic Four in this book as well as the menace of the mysterious Chameleon. Supporting character J. Jonah Jameson makes his debut appearance with vintage art by Steve Ditko and Jack "King" Kirby. Spider-Man's origin is also re-told as timid teenager Peter Parker is bitten by a radio-active spider, empowering him with uncanny power and abilities. Heritage Comics Auctions is proud to offer one of the finest copies of this super-key Silver-Age comic ever to be placed for public auction. An out-and-out beautiful copy that has an immaculate spine and only the most infinitesimal stress line at the upper part of the top staple. Perfectly flat with a very tight spine, exact centering and exceptional cover edges (no "Marvel chipping"). Color inks are sharp and very strong (no smudging) with excellent gloss and outstanding eye-appeal. There are no defects of note save for the most miniscule color flake at the lower right edge of the front cover and the most minor of nicks at the very bottom of the spine. Interior paper is very supple and fresh. An incredible book in every way. At present,
Amazing Spider-Man
is the undisputed, highest demand title in the entire marketplace. With the earnest expectation of the upcoming motion picture, due out in the Summer, 2002, Spider-Man titles have no equal regarding their potential to rise in value and demand. This
Amazing Spider-Man

Jack Kirby and Syd Shores - Original Cover Art for Captain America #108 (Marvel, 1968).
An unbeatable combination - Jack Kirby, the undisputed "King" of comics, and his most legendary creation, the star-spangled Avenger, Captain America! In this unforgettable cover, Cap pastes the Trapster with both feet, as a helpless Sharon Carter looks on. Bold, dynamic and action-packed, this was Kirby at the top of his game, ably assisted by the brilliant brush strokes of Syd Shores. There is minimal white-out on this cover, which is standard size, 11.25" x 17.5", and in excellent condition. The title and corner box are both stats, the rest is all original. A beautiful cover, likely to be the centerpiece of any original art collection.

Amazing Fantasy #15 (Marvel, 1962).
The Granddaddy of all Silver Age Keys, featuring the very first appearance of Spider-Man. Leading off with Jack Kirby's "amazing" cover, and the highly imaginative work of Lee & Ditko, this is easily the most important superhero launch since
Action
#1. A very nice mid-grade copy that shows light spine stress and moderate wear around the edges, but none of the telltale "Marvel chipping." Front cover retains excellent color and clarity. Back cover has a tiny (1/4") tear at the top edge of the spine. CGC FN/VF 7.0 Off-white pages. Overstreet 2001 FN 6.0 value = $3,500; VF 8.0 value = $12,825.

The Amazing Spider-Man #1 (Marvel, 1963).
After a spectacular showing in
Amazing Fantasy
#15, Spider-Man gets his own comic book, with a guest-appearance by the Fantastic Four. Probably the third-most important Marvel Silver Age Key (after
Amazing Fantasy
#15 and
Fantastic Four
#1), the first issue of
Amazing Spider-Man
is a red-hot book in just about anyone's estimation. This outstanding example features good clarity and freshness, with reasonably square corners and a perfectly-registered cut, and none of the telltale "Marvel chipping" that mars so many books from this period. Apparent flaws include some very light spine stress (which breaks the ink only in the green text strip just below the Human Torch), moderate dinginess to the back cover, and the bottom staple rolled approximately 1/8" onto the front cover. Given the relative scarcity of this book in high grade, this is a truly "amazing" copy that would be the prize of any Spider-Man collection. CGC VF 8.0 Off-white pages. Overstreet 2001 VF 8.0 value = $8,800; NM 9.4 value = $25,000.

All-Flash #3 Mile High pedigree (DC, 1941).
In a collection known for the high quality of its books, this is certainly one of the nicest. Looking as if it just rolled off the printing press, this book's only visible defect is that it is slightly mis-cut. A small pencil notation appears in the upper left corner, but does not in any way reduce the beauty of this near-pristine comic. A welcome addition to any high-grade Golden Age collection. World's Best Comics #1 (DC, 1941).
Superman and Batman were already big stars by the Spring of 1941, so putting them together on the cover of this classic issue must have seemed like a natural. The only issue of this title (by the next issue, the book would be renamed
World's Finest Comics
), this was 96 pages of non-stop action featuring Superman, Batman & Robin, The Crimson Avenger, Zatana, Johnny Thunder, and many others. This is a very nice copy of this key Golden Age book, with slight foxing and some minor chipping at the edges of the front and back covers. The spine has slight damage to the top and bottom, but is overall in excellent condition (this is a difficult comic to find in high-grade, as the square binding is often quite worn). There is also a 1" tear on the first page. This is one of the finest copies available of this desirable book; according to CGC's latest census results, there are only two copies that are nicer than this one. An excellent opportunity to own a beautiful copy of this fantastic comic. CGC FN/VF 7.0 Cream to off-white pages. Overstreet FN 6.0 value = $4,080; NM 9.4 value = $8,840.

Wally Wood and Russ Jones - Original Art for "The Mummy" from Monster World #1 - Complete 6-Page Story (Warren, 1964).
Wally Wood was well-known as one of the greatest talents in comics, making his name as part of the legendary EC stable of artists. Several years after the demise of the EC horror titles, Wood applied his considerable skill to this adaptation of the classic Universal horror film starring Boris Karloff. With his wonderful sense of pacing and layout, and his uncanny ability to capture Karloff's amazing presence on paper, this story is a rare treat by a true master. It proved to be so popular that it was quickly reprinted in
Eerie
#11. Measuring approximately 14.5" x 23", this art is in very fine condition, with some yellowing evident, but minimal white-out and no blue-pencil. One page shows panels that seem to be pasted together, but all the art is original, except for the title logo on the first page, which is a stat. This is an excellent example of Wood's post-EC, pre-Marvel period, when he had truly mastered his artistic style. Only the first page is shown here.
