Fred Guardineer - Original Cover Art for Action Comics #16 (DC, 1939).
This thrilling cover from 1939, just a few issues into the Superman phenomenon, is the second to the last non-Man of Steel cover in one of the industry's longest-running comic book series. Fred Guardineer, a 20 year veteran of comics, delineated the covers of many early DC books, including this cover from Action Comics #16. With his clean and uncluttered approach, Guardineer brings zest to this soldier-of-fortune adventure piece. This beautifully-maintained comic art treasure measures 13" x 17" and is matted with white board. The art is in pristine condition, with an overall yellowing which doesn't detract from the work. The Action logo paste-up is a photocopy and not the original. A great piece from one of the key titles in comic history.

Jack Kirby and Joe Simon - Original Cover Art for Champ #23 (Harvey, 1942).
Covering a book that features such unforgettable characters as the Twinkle Twins, Dr. Miracle, the Human Meteor and Slim Jim come this outstanding example of Simon and Kirby art, complete with outraged Nazis, a flowing American flag and a tank-full of juvenile gunmen. A piece of history, pencilled and inked by two of the industry's most beloved creators during the middle of World War II. Overall page size is approximately 11.5" x 15.5", matted with white board. The strip along the left edge which features the other characters in the book and the Champ logo are photocopied from the original comic and added to the art to make it appear more like the printed comic. This art is in incredible shape, will some limited use of white out and only the slightest bit of aging.

John Severin - Two-Fisted Tales #36 Cover Recreation Original Art (Russ Cochran, 1980).
In 1953, John Severin started working for EC Comics, producing beautifully rendered westerns and war stories. He eventually became chief artist and editor on the classic comic Two-Fisted Tales. Here is a beautiful sample of Severin's mastery of the Old Western image... a recreated cover based on the original version of the January 1954 issue of
The New Two-Fisted Tales
#36, penciled and inked by Severin. This piece, drawn for Russ Cochran's series,
The Complete EC Library
, shows an artist who has clearly mastered every minute detail of the scene, a gritty tableau of lawmen and desperados, sand and smoking Colts. The image size is 11" x 15.5" on a 13.5" x 18.5" piece of illustration board. There is an overall yellowing, but it is uniform across the entire piece and doesn't detract from the image.
