Steve Mufatti - Original Art for Casper the Friendly Ghost #20, page 4 (Harvey, 1954).
Casper, the Friendly Ghost is easily Harvey's most famous character. The comics were originally based on the "Casper" animated series, but after 20 or so issues, realized how limited this was. They began to expand Casper's personality, his environment and the characters he interacted with. Steve Mufatti is still following the animated cartoon style in this 12" x 18" image drawn on a sheet of 14" x 22.5" bristol board. Wendy, the Good Little Witch makes her historic first appearance in this story, to boot. The art is very clean, with almost no sign of wear.

Classical artwork from the legendary John Buscema, ably inked by Ernie Chan. 10.5" x 15.75", excellent condition overall, with creasing in the upper left corner, limited white-out, and some blue-pencil notations. Bob Powell - Original Art for Chamber of Chills #18, Complete 5-page Story "Friend" (Harvey, 1953).
Albert is having trouble with his girl Louise, so he turns to his pal George to help him impress her. Even the most outrageous stunts leave Louise yawning, however, until a final scheme that has tragic -- and sinister -- consequences. Bob Powell was a fine draftsman with a slick pen & ink line, and his technique of shading certain areas of the artwork with blue pencil (color indicators for the engraver, one assumes) lends these pages a nicely eerie two-tone quality not usually found in original artwork. Five pages, each measuring 15" x 22", with heavy white-out in the margins, and moderate usage in the artwork. A great twice-up horror tale from the Golden Age.

Howard Nostrand - Original Art for Black Cat Mystery #46, Complete 5-page Story "The Blonde Man" (Harvey, 1953).
The fortune teller told Charlie that a blonde man would bring him doom -- and Charlie spends the rest of the story obsessing about it, until he unwittingly brings about his own demise. Can you say "self-fulfilling prophecy"? Howard Nostrand contributes dramatic Jack Davis-esque artwork to this tawdry cautionary tale. Excellent condition overall, with heavy white-out in the margins; on page 1, the faces of Charlie and his wife are missing paste-overs that probably altered their expressions somewhat, and glue-stains remain. A great twice-up horror story for the discerning collector. Five pages, 15" x 22".
