Latest Heritage Amazing Comics Auction™ Internet 14012
Dallas, TX: Heritage’s Amazing Comics Auction™ (ACA) sale #14012 ended Sunday, January 18, with 926 lots offered. 526 bidders placed bids, and 257 of them were successful, for a total sell-through of $70,443.30 for 905 lots (97.73% of lots offered). 10 after-auction lots were purchased by 9 bidders, for a total of $4,223.50.
A few highlights from the 01/18/04 ACA sale are:
Howard Nostrand - Original Art for Chamber of Chills #18, Complete 5-page Story, "Haircut" (Harvey, 1953).A story that cuts a little too close for comfort, "Haircut," by Howard Nostrand has a classic EC-style ending. Measures an overall 15" x 22" with a 12" x 18" image area. In excellent condition overall. Realized $948.75
All-American Comics #1 (DC, 1939) CGC VG/FN 5.0 Cream to off-white pages.
First appearance of Hop Harrigan, Scribbly, and Red, White, and Blue. Sheldon Mayer cover art. CGC notes, "2 small pieces of tape on cover." Overstreet 2003 VG 4.0 value = $1,400; FN 6.0 value = $2,100. Realized $891.25
Frank Frazetta - Original Art Sketches "Nude and Profile" (undated).
Very attractive and finished small sketches of a female nude study, and a man's head, drawn in pen and ink on light beige paper and signed by Frazetta. The image area is 2" x 5"; the piece has been matted to a size of 5.25" x 9". In excellent condition. Realized $833.75
Bob Powell - Original Complete Story Art for Black Cat #36 "Rotting Demons" (Harvey, 1952).
Atmospheric and ghastly seven page tale of swamp zombies by the incredible Bob Powell; all pages have had a light blue wash added to indicate shading, making these black and white pages really come alive. Art measures 14.5" x 19", with an image area of 12" x 18". Use of white-out is a little heavy; otherwise these pages are all in excellent condition. Realized $747.50
Bob Powell - Original Complete Story Art for Black Cat #36 "The Last Man On Earth" (Harvey, 1951).
Wild four page time-travel/monster story by the talented Bob Powell, with a twist ending. As was his custom, Powell added a light blue wash to the art in order to indicate shading; it makes the black and white pages really look sharp. The art measures 14" x 19.25", with an image area of 12" x 18". There's a red smudge on page one that doesn't enter the image area, and some paste-up stats are missing on page two (on a newspaper featured in one panel); however, the overall condition of the pages is excellent. Realized $603.75
Rudy Palais - Original Complete Story Art for Black Cat #33 "Army of Scorpions" (Harvey, 1951).
Creepy four-pager designed to make readers squirm; one look at the splash page should do the trick! From those great pre-code days when horror stories in comic books really delivered the goods! Art size is 14.5" x 19.75", with an image area of 12" X 18". Page three has a few small stains; otherwise, these pages are all in excellent condition. Realized $563.50
World's Finest Comics #2 Batman and Superman (DC, 1941) CGC VG- 3.5 Cream to off-white pages.
Features Zatara and Red, White, and Blue. Fred Ray cover art. Jerry Robinson interior art. Overstreet 2003 VG 4.0 value = $846. Realized $494.50
