Latest Heritage Amazing Comics Auction™ Internet 13082

Dallas, TX - Heritage’s Amazing Comics Auction™ (ACA) sale #13082 ended Sunday, August 17, with 622 lots offered. 457 bidders placed bids, and 216 of them were successful, for a total sell-through of $74,358.95 for 584 lots (93.89% of lots offered). 10 after-auction lots were purchased by 8 bidders, for a total of $2,505.50.

A few highlights from the 08/17/03 ACA sale are:

Frank Frazetta - Original Illustration, Bear-Back Rider (undated). This deadly pen and ink by the master himself, Frank Frazetta, features a primitive man and a bear -- brothers in arms in the battle for survival. Dynamic inks, which flow effortlessly around the figures, express the pure, feral strength of these two savage creatures. The art measures an overall 8" x 10" with a 4.5" x 6" image area. Signed by Frank Frazetta. Provenance: The Alexander Gallery. Realized $2,990.00

Shock SuspenStories #10 Gaines File pedigree (EC, 1953) CGC NM+ 9.6 White pages. Jack Kamen cover. Reed Crandall and Wally Wood interior art. Junkie story. Highest CGC grade for this issue to date. Although CGC has certified this as a Gaines File copy, there is no certificate accompanying this book. Overstreet 2003 NM 9.4 value = $335. Realized $1,725.00

Robert Crumb - Original Sketches (undated, early '60s). Can we talk? This sketch page, pulled directly from one of Robert Crumb's numerous sketchbooks, features a group of ladies who seem to be in the midst of some very juicy gossip. Crumb puts his spin on these considerably-calved courtesans, from the matronly to the maidenly, with an age range of 17 to 70. Drawn on a sheet of 8.5" x 11" sketch paper, both sides are covered with Crumb's succinct depiction of femme form, with the addition of a few cartoony birds for comedy relief. Realized $1,592.75

Boy Commandos #1 (DC, 1942) CGC FN/VF 7.0 Off-white pages. Origin of Liberty Belle. Joe Simon and Jack Kirby art. Overstreet 2003 FN 6.0 value = $573; VF 8.0 value = $1,194. Realized $1,437.50

Robert Crumb - Original Sketches (undated, early '60s). The little man at the top of the page pulls his hat firmly down over his eyes and cries, "No No No Sandra's playing Oklahoma No No!" Obviously some teenage trauma being experienced by a master teenage cartoonist... just another day in the life of Robert Crumb. One side of this art features a myriad of wonderful sketches, including a Robert Crumb self portrait. On the opposite side, written in diary format, Crumb tackles the first day of high school and his issues with his younger brother, Maxon. The piece measures 6.5" x 8.5" with art flowing to most edges. The paper is slightly tan, but in exceptional condition. Realized $1,380.00

Batman #4 (DC, 1940) CGC VG+ 4.5 Cream to off-white pages. Third appearance of the Joker. First mention of Gotham City. Bob Kane cover. Overstreet 2003 VG 4.0 value = $1,274. Realized $990.15
