Jack Kirby and Arthur Caseneuve - Original Cover Art for Speed Comics #22 (Harvey, 1942).
An extremely early Jack Kirby cover as Captain Freedom makes like a bomber and dives into the enemy forces. All original logos and stats. A very rare example of some of Kirby's earliest existing work in the genre. 14" x 18", with an image area of 10.5" x 14". Realized $10,350.00
Marvel Mystery Comics #12 D pedigree (Timely, 1940) CGC NM- 9.2 Cream to off-white pages.
"Headlight" cover by Jack Kirby. Paul Gustavson art. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $4,500. Realized $6,612.50
Captain America Comics #3 (Timely, 1941) CGC FN- 5.5 Off-white pages.
Centerfold detached. Very small amount of dried glue on cover. Classic Red Skull cover and one page Stan Lee text story which was his first work for Timely. Overstreet 2002 FN 6.0 value = $2,769. Realized $3,795.00
Batman #11 (DC, 1942) CGC VF- 7.5 Off-white to white pages.
Classic Joker cover. Joker and Penguin appearances. Fred Ray/Jerry Robinson cover. Overstreet 2002 VF 8.0 value = $4,000. Realized $2,990.00
Vault of Horror #39 4/12 (EC, 1954) CGC NM/MT 9.8 White pages.
It is amazing that the dark green background to this bondage cover has remained intact for the last 50 years. Even as Gaines File copies go, this one is a wonder. It is no surprise that no copies have been graded higher than this one. ECs have remained woefully undervalued in the Price Guide, so even the multiples these copies command still seems relatively cheap. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $285. Realized $2,885.35
Weird Fantasy #21 Gaines File pedigree 3/12 (EC, 1953) CGC NM- 9.2 Off-white to white pages.
Frazetta and Williamson cover. Kamen, Williamson/Krenkel, Orlando, and Wood art. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $550. Realized $2,012.50
Tales From the Crypt #36 Gaines File pedigree 3/10 (EC, 1953) CGC NM+ 9.6 Off-white to white pages.
This issue featured a Ray Bradbury adaptation and art by Davis, Ingels, Kamen, and Evans behind the tense Jack Davis cover. Go ahead and find fault with this copy, but bring your microscope! CGC has seen only one other copy of issue #36 that earned a higher grade. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $460. Est. 2,200. Realized $1,897.50
Marvel Mystery Comics #7 (Timely, 1940) CGC FN+ 6.5 Cream to off-white pages.
Schomburg honed his style on these early Marvels, which evolved into his famous "busy" covers that have made the later issues of the run so popular. This book is very solid, with decent page quality, overall a gorgeous, scarce book. Overstreet 2002 FN 6.0 value = $1,731. Realized $1,897.50
