Heritage Predicts Its Official San Diego Comic-Con Signature Auction Will Be
Consignments are still being accepted for this historic event.Dallas, Texas: Heritage Auctions, the world’s largest collectibles auctioneer, and Comic-Con International: San Diego 2003, America’s most renowned comics and popular arts convention, have teamed up to present what Heritage is describing as, “The greatest auction of comics, original comic art and memorabilia, classic toys, vintage movie posters, and American illustration art the world has ever seen.”
The official Heritage/Comic-Con International Signature Sale auction is expected to set a world's record of more than $5.2 million (also set by Heritage, last October). The auction will be held live and onsite at the show, July 16-20, 2003. Bids will also be accepted by live proxy, by phone, fax, email, and online at HeritageComics.com, and via eBay Live.
The following auction highlights have already been consigned:
Toys and Memorabilia
- The original hand-carved, hand-painted prototype G.I. JOE figure (estimated value: $600,000-up), along with a great selection of additional early JOE-memorabilia, straight from the personal collection of Joe’s “Dad,” Don Levine
- More treasures from the vaults of Spider-Man, Hulk, X-Men and Daredevil co-creator Stan Lee, plus Stan’s personal, vintage Spider-Man pinball machine
- A fantastic group of superb Golden Age comics consigned to Heritage once again by Academy Award-winning actor Nicolas Cage
- Almost 100 different Gaines File EC comics certified by CGC
- A near-complete collection of Jack “The King” Kirby comics
- Fabulous Silver Age comics from the White Rose Collection
- A glorious assortment of unrestored blue-label CGC-graded comics, including a copy of CAPTAIN AMERICA #7, CGC-graded 9.6, DETECTIVE COMICS #27, CGC-graded 3.0, SUPERMAN #1, CGC-graded 3.5, and CAPTAIN AMERICA #1, CGC-graded 8.0, plus numerous other Golden Age keys in various grades
- A wonderful selection of original underground art, including a large and diverse group of fabulous Robert Crumb originals
- Over 125 original Golden, Silver and Bronze Age comic book covers with emphasis on Marvel, DC, Harvey and EC
- The original art to over 50 complete Silver and Golden Age stories

- Dozens of 1-sheet movie posters for such classic titles as Mickey Mouse’s “Wayward Canary” and the 1930 sound version of Lon Chaney, Sr.’s “The Unholy Three”
Space is limited, as the auction will be scheduled almost entirely outside of show hours -- and the sale is filling up fast. Heritage believes the sale may close well before the published consignment deadline.
