Heritage Comics Auctions Premiere Signature Sale Tops $1 million in Bids Received
As of November 2, after only two weeks of open bidding, Heritage Comics Auctions (HCA) premiere Signature Auction, slated for the UncommonCon Festival November 23-24 at the Wyndham Anatole hotel in Dallas, had already received about $1.25 million in Internet and mail bids. Even if the bidding had stopped right then, the auction would have brought about $400,000 (and the bidders would be extremely pleased!). Of course the total has been climbing steadily, and will be much higher by the time the last gavel falls."We’re extremely gratified by the initial response", said John Petty, Director of HCA. "With three full weeks of bidding left to go, we’ve already recorded over 2,750 bids on 846 lots from 250 different Internet and mail bidders. The response to the catalog, the web site, and the auction itself has been overwhelmingly positive. Keep in mind that this was before most people could see our 32-page pull-out section in the Comics Buyers Guide. We do seem to be stirring up some excitement in the comics world, and that’s a good thing."
Petty said that the action is taking place on the HCA web site right now at http://www.HeritageComics.com, and that anyone can place bids on-line at any time. "We also offer bidding by phone, fax, mail, and through eBay Live Bid during the event itself. We want to make sure that anyone, anywhere, can easily bid in this auction," said Petty.
"And in the midst of all this," he continued, "we’re working on our second major auction, to be held here in Dallas, TX, March 15-17, 2002. We already have some magnificent material consigned, including an original page from BATMAN #13, a complete set of Gaines File copies of MAD Magazine #24-100 plus all the early Annuals, the original John Romita black-and-white line art done for the cover of Spectacular Spider-Man #1 (the very first Marvel magazine), a THOR cover by Jack "King" Kirby, complete or nearly complete CGC-graded Gaines File sets of ACES HIGH, PIRACY, VALOR, SHOCK SUSPENSTORIES, FRONTLINE COMBAT, TWO-FISTED TALES & VAULT OF HORROR, a drawing of Charlie Brown, Linus and Snoopy in patriotic poses by Charles Schulz, the original Golden-Age cover art to All-Star #54, numerous CGC-certified high-grade Golden- and Silver-Age superhero books, and more."
