Press Release - October 30, 2007

Dallas, TX: One of the best collections of Silver and Bronze Age comics seen to date, the Fantastic Frank Collection, is currently on offer in Heritage Auction Galleries' current vintage comic auctions.

"The words '9.8 white pages' are seen over and over in the Fantastic Frank collection," said Ed Jaster, Vice-President. "Each of our Sunday Internet Comics Auctions has a number of these gems from the late 1970s and early 1980s, and virtually every one is the best copy we've seen of the respective issue. Frank's Silver Age books, many in the 9.4 range, are impressive as well. If you collect DC books from 1963-1975, you are bound to find lots of upgrades in the weeks to come."

Bidder response to the collection has already been superb, with many Bronze Age specimens selling for 20 to 30 times the highest Overstreet value.

"Fantastic Frank" is Frank R. Johnson, whom longtime comic fans may remember from his mail-order business, the Fantasy Mail Company, which used to advertise in the late-1970s Overstreet Comic Book Price Guides.

Frank was very successful in his day job as a chemical engineer until one day in the early 1980s, when he was trapped in a devastating fire. It dramatically impaired his speech and hand movements, and he was unable to continue at his job. But with his upbeat, positive attitude, Frank was able to prosper despite his disability (for more on Frank, see Fantastic Frank). Among other current ventures, Frank publishes a comic called Young Explorers (see a sample at The Young Explorers).

"The overall quality of the 'Fantastic Frank' collection of Silver and Bronze Age comics is so superb, that one could argue it merits a pedigree designation," Jaster added. "In that regard it reminds me of another high-grade, white-page Silver and Bronze Age hoard, the Janowicz Collection. Believe it or not, Joe Janowicz and Fantastic Frank are fast friends, both from the Rochester, New York area. Frank saw the stellar results Heritage achieved for Joe's collection - which has now passed $400,000 in auction sales with much more to come - and decided to consign his collection to us as well. With both Fantastic Frank and Janowicz books up for auction in the coming weeks, our selection of vintage Marvel and DC comics will have something for everyone."
