Description
ThunderCats Tygra Production Cel and Production Background (Rankin-Bass/Topcraft, c. 1985-89). Iconic bolo whip in hand, it's the staunch, level-headed warrior Tygra in this original production cel from the 1985 sensation, ThunderCats. Using the sci-fi/fantasy formula popularized by He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, ThunderCats was a knockout hit animated series co-produced by Rankin-Bass Animated Entertainment and animated by Japanese studio Topcraft which would later become Pacific Animation Corporation. Stoic Tygra is featured from the waist up and pleasingly centered on the hand-painted 12 field cel, measuring a superb 8.5" x 6.5". The production code A11 can be found in the upper right corner of the cel, and an art correction is present at the bottom edge where the studio trimmed away an incorrectly painted area of the cel. The cel is presented on a hand-painted production background rendered in gouache on board, possibly from another series. The lot shows very minimal handling wear from production use including a small paint crack near the right shoulder, light surface scuffing, and minor corner creasing on the background.
