Description

Carl Grubert The Berrys Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 8-28-64 (Publishers Newspaper Syndicate, 1964). Clean of line and emphatically anchored in black-ink gravity, Gruber's impeccable style and antic sense of affectionate humor made The Berrys a long-running popular favorite. Like his more famous contemporary, Nancy's Ernie Bushmiller, Gruber brought a sense of orderly T-square draftsmanship to the drawing-table -- the better to depict an orderly, ordinary household setting where the element of surprise could thrive. This splendid example draws its hilarity from a simple misperception. Grubert's depiction of speed-lines (to portray running, at right) is unique. Ink and Zipatone shading film over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 18" x 5.5". In Excellent condition.
