All Star Comics #8 (DC, 1942) CGC NM 9.4 Off-white to white pages. One of the most important comic books ever published, the origin and first appearance of Wonder Woman has always been fiercely pursued by collectors, so much so that this same copy, which sits alone at the top of CGC's census for this issue, broke the seven-figure mark a few years ago. We sold this specific copy in 2024 for $1.5 million.While it is slightly less scarce than other major Golden Age key comics, it is still difficult to obtain in high-grade condition. To date, CGC has certified 228 copies, of which 167 are Universal grade; of those, only 10 have a grade of VF 8.0 or higher and more than 100 have a grade of VG 4.0 or lower. The highest-graded restored copies top out at Apparent VF/NM 9.0 on their census.
Its illustrious contents also include the first appearance of Paradise Island (aka Themyscira), the induction of Starman and Dr. Mid-Nite into the Justice Society of America, a redesigned helmet for Doctor Fate, the launch of recurring Hop Harrigan text stories and Starman features, and an appearance by Shiera Saunders. It is currently one of Overstreet's Top 100 Golden Age Comics. Overstreet 2024 NM- 9.2 value = $390,000. CGC census 1/26: 1 in 9.4, none higher.
