Description

Spicy Mystery Stories #9 February 1936 (Culture) CGC FN+ 6.5 Off-white to white pages. What a beauty! With unbelievable depth of color, a pristine spine, and not a single chip in sight, this iconic Issue is a sight for sore eyes with its classic lingerie and hanging cover by H. J. Ward for Lew Merrill's "Batman", releasing over three years prior to Bob Kane and Bill Finger's debut of the comic-book superhero Batman in Detective Comics #27. With further features including "Shadows Pass" by Robert Leslie Bellem and "Desert Magic" by E. Hoffman Price, it can't be overstated just how divine this book is, outscoring even the Dr. Richard Meli collection copy at an FN- 5.5 which fetched over $19,000! Bookery's lists as "uncommon". CGC notes, "Very minor amount of color touch on cover." Bookery's Guide to Pulps: Revised Third Edition 2025 FN 6.0 value = $15,000; VF 8.0 value = $30,000. CGC census 1/26: 1 in 6.5, 2 higher.
