Description
Castlevania - VGA 85 NM+ Sealed [Oval SOQ TM, Later Production], NES Konami 1987 USA. A landmark third-party release, Castlevania was the first entry in Konami's long-running gothic action-platformer series. Originally debuting on the Famicom Disk System, the game introduced players to Simon Belmont and his famous Vampire Killer whip on a quest to defeat Count Dracula. For its international release, the title was changed from Akumajō Dracula to Castlevania after concern over the religious connotations of the original name, which translated to "Demon Castle Dracula." The game's horror theme was rare for the era, and it went on to inspire the "platformer with a whip" subgenre and the popular Metroidvania gameplay style. The box for this copy shows light corner wear and a bit of wear along the top front edge, with a faint 2" surface impression on the front cover, but the game displays superbly. This is an Oval SOQ copy, reflecting a later production run issued after Nintendo replaced the earlier round Seal of Quality with the oval format in 1989.Auction Info
