Alice the Fire Fighter RARE 20-Character Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1926). "Hip, hip, hooray!" A celebratory crowd of 20 animals including several of Julius the Cat's fellow firefighters span the frame in this original animation drawing from the closing scenes of Alice the Fire Fighter in Walt Disney's Alice Comedy series. The Alice Comedies were the very first works produced by the small studio that would come to be known as The Walt Disney Company, and the historic legacy of these silent films is not to be understated. Alice the Fire Fighter originally debuted on October 18, 1926, and starred Margie Gay (1919 - 2005) the most prolific actress to portray Alice whose only acting credits are those 31 shorts she appeared in from 1925 - 1927. This one followed Fire Chief Alice and her team of feline firefighters (all of whom resemble her perpetual animated sidekick Julius) as they work together to rescue tenants and snuff out a hotel fire. From the end of the feature, this crowd can be spotted near the 8:16 timestamp cheering on Julius as he shares a kiss with a lady cat from the hotel whose character design is markedly similar to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit's ladylove Sadie (aka Ortensia) who would debut the following year. Rendered in graphite and flanking the lower corners of the 12 field animation sheet, this impressive group of animal onlookers measures 3.25" x 3.75" in the left and 5.5" x 5.25" in the right. The drawing features an animator's note not to trim the left edge where a pair of studio binder holes are visible, and has been framed under Plexiglas to an overall size of 19.75" x 16" with a mat aperture of 11.75" x 8". All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition. With typical handling and edge wear including slight age-related toning, minor areas of smudging/surface wear, and faint corner creasing, overall this excited crowd of spectators is in Very Good condition.Auction Info
