Description
Joe Simon 1st Issue Special #10 "The Outsiders" Unused Cover Original Art (DC, 1976). This seems to be Simon's original cover for what would become "The Outsiders". The project was originally titled "The Super Uglies", and you can see the "SU" logo on the mobile lab. This was just a few years after the Bill Campbell/Big Daddy Roth monster car craze, and the art seems to be paying a tribute to that. Created in ink over graphite on DC/Sparta Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". There are stat paste-up glue stains, so this piece likely got close to production before being replaced by an Ernie Chan (Chua) cover. The board has some razor scoring from trimming paste-ups, and a crease across the lower third. There are staple holes in the top margin, and whiteout around the edges.
