Castlevania - Wata 9.8 A+ Sealed [Oval SOQ TM, Later
Production], NES Konami 1987 USA. According to the company's
December 2025 census, PSA/Wata has graded only 39 sealed copies of
Castlevania across all variants, an extraordinarily small
figure for a title of such stature. Among those, this stunning
example has the highest grade. In fact, this is the only 9.8 copy
of Castlevania ever certified and the first time collectors
have had the opportunity of acquiring one. It is an Oval SOQ
example, indicating a later production run, as Nintendo
transitioned from the earlier round Seal of Quality to the oval
format in 1989.A true NES classic, Castlevania featured a meticulously crafted gothic world defined by skill-based platforming, enemy memorization, and precise combat-an intentional departure from the run-and-gun action common at the time. Its haunting atmosphere, memorable soundtrack, and deliberate pacing established a distinct identity that helped define Konami's legacy on the NES. More than just a successful debut, Castlevania laid the foundation for one of gaming's most enduring franchises and set design principles that would influence action and exploration games for decades to follow. This is a truly historic copy of the game.
