Description

"Shelton the Turtle" Preliminary Concept Art by Disney Legend Marc Davis for Landmark Entertainment Group (LEG, 1989). This preliminary concept artwork was created in 1989 by Disney Legend Marc Davis as part of a project proposal for Landmark Entertainment. Rendered in pen and color marker on a 13" x 16" sheet affixed to board, the piece is signed by Davis and depicts the humorous turtle character Shelton in a variety of playful poses. The artwork highlights Davis's remarkable gift for combining wit, caricature, and theatrical expression in the development of memorable personalities for themed entertainment projects. Landmark Entertainment Group, founded in 1980 by Gary Goddard and Tony Christopher, became renowned for designing groundbreaking attractions such as Jurassic Park: The Ride, Terminator 2: 3D, and The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man. Davis's collaboration with Landmark during this period represents an important chapter in his post-Disney career. One of Walt Disney's famed "Nine Old Men," Davis (1913-2000) animated classic characters including Maleficent, Cruella de Vil, and Tinker Bell, before moving on to WED Enterprises, where he helped shape Pirates of the Caribbean and The Haunted Mansion. Presented in Very Good condition, this signed original is a rare treasure for collectors of Marc Davis and animation history.
