Wonderful World of Oz - Proposed Theme Park - Original "Witches Castle Exterior" Concept/Pitch Art Illustration by Eric Heschong for Landmark Entertainment (LEG, 1999). This original concept/pitch art was created by Landmark Entertainment Group for the ambitious late-1990s proposal Wonderful World of Oz, a large-scale theme park inspired by the beloved 1939 MGM classic. Expertly rendered in gouache on 37" x 13" illustration board by renowned concept artist Eric Heschong (1950-2013), the piece presents a dramatic exterior view of the Wicked Witch's Castle. Serving as the Witch's formidable base of operations, the castle looms with foreboding power. While widely recognized from the 1939 film, its name, Kiamo Ko, originates in L. Frank Baum's novels and later adaptations like the musical Wicked. In Baum's books, the castle stands in Winkie Country, anchoring the Wicked Witch's domain. The attraction concept embodies Landmark's talent for combining theatrical design with immersive storytelling. Between 1998 and 1999, Landmark developed the full master plan for Wonderful World of Oz, envisioning Munchkinland, the Yellow Brick Road, the Witch's Castle, and the Emerald City, supported by dark rides, media-based shows, themed dining, retail, and live entertainment. This rare, vibrant Heschong original powerfully captures Landmark's cinematic vision.
