Description
Wonderful World of Oz - Proposed Theme Park - Original Cowardly Lion Concept Art Illustration by William Stout for "Yellow Brick Country" for Landmark Entertainment (LEG, 1999). This original concept artwork was created by Landmark Entertainment Group for the proposed Wizard of Oz-themed park, Wonderful World of Oz. Rendered in gouache on 24" x 22" Strathmore Illustration paper with a 21" x 16" image size, the piece is dated 1999 and signed by acclaimed illustrator William Stout. The artwork features the Cowardly Lion and beautifully conveys the cinematic spectacle and immersive qualities Landmark sought in adapting the beloved 1939 MGM classic into a full-scale themed destination. William Stout, renowned for his fantasy and paleontological art, was an inspired choice for the project. With credits including Heavy Metal magazine, Ralph Bakshi's Wizards, and album covers for The Rolling Stones and The Who, Stout's bold, dynamic style perfectly matched Landmark's ambitious vision. The Wonderful World of Oz was conceived as a richly detailed environment, bringing to life Munchkinland, the Yellow Brick Road, the Wicked Witch's Castle, and the Emerald City. Featuring advanced attractions, themed retail, and live shows, the park was to be an immersive celebration of one of cinema's greatest stories. This rare, signed concept stands as a striking artifact of Landmark's visionary design legacy.
