Description

Daffy Duck Publicity Cel on Studio Background (Warner Brothers, 1942). Daffy Duck went through many stages in his evolution, from a hyperkinetic nut in his debut cartoon Porky's Duck Hunt to a happy miser in Ali Baba Bunny and even a space-age hero in Duck Dodgers in the 24½ Century. His initial design was by Tex Avery, but each of the Warner Brothers directors contributed small changes to his appearance and personality along the way. Daffy went on to make 130 theatrical shorts, and was voted 14th greatest cartoon character in a poll by TV Guide. Presented here is an original hand-inked hand-painted publicity/art props cel of Daffy in the style of Chuck Jones from the early '40s and was likely used in print promotion. This remarkable Daffy cel is over a hand-painted studio background, distinguishing it from any other similar piece that we have seen. The full-figure pose measures 5.25" on a 12 field cel with his name and studio copyright hand-inked along the bottom. It could be said that vintage Warner Brothers animation art this nice, from this era is almost as rare as duck's teeth. The nearly 80-year-old cel exhibits extremely minor paint loss in Daffy's neck and elbow. The background shows light color difference around the border from a previous framing and the setup is taped together. It's in a 20" x 16" mat with a 10" x 8" opening. Condition is Very Good.
