Description

Al Capp Li'l Abner Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 7-31-49 (United Feature Syndicate, 1949). Conned into a battle with the champions of both boxing and wrestling - at once - naive hillbilly Abner Yokum is as confident as he is ignorant of the circumstances. The racketeers propose to weaken Abner with the amorous attentions of a femme fatale known as the Killer, a classic Capp-style voluptuous beauty. Capp's incidental mastery of the Good Girl Art idiom foreshadows by five years his hiring of up-and-coming Frank Frazetta as a ghost/assistant. The erotic subcurrents run deep. Ink over graphite on conjoined tiers of Bristol board. An upper logo panel tier is missing. Image area measures approximately 19" x 21.75". Overall condition is Good, with age-toning, white-paint retouch deterioration, and adhesive staining.
