Description

Al Capp Li'l Abner Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 6-3-51 (United Feature Syndicate, 1951). Capp's most terrifying beauty, the cannibalistic Wolf Gal, dominates this sequence about her supposed reformation from a life of feral mayhem. Heroic Mammy Yokum decides trust is in order, and so she leaves the Wolf Gal alone with the temptation of a choice specimen of hog-flesh - the Yokum family's prized sow, Salomey. Suspense and a touch of shock value carry about equal weight with Capp's bizarre sense of humor. (The sequence was reprinted in 1954 for a backup section of United Feature Syndicate's Fritzi Ritz comic book, Issue #35.) Ink over graphite on conjoined tiers of Bristol board. Image area, 19" x 21.25". Conspicuous adhesive staining (intruding upon the borders), with a missing upper logotype and seams between tiers. Good condition.
