Description

Comics Code Authority Christmas Card (Comics Magazine Association of America, Inc., 1955). If this is the Comics Code agency, then how come its official Christmas Card looks nothing like comic-book art? Just another oddity about the intrinsically odd Comics Code. This strange Santa Claus collage does contain a montage of comic-book covers (in extreme miniature), surmounted by a much larger reproduction of the Comics Code escutcheon. Though possibly dating from 1954 (Code's début), the card is likelier a 1955 creation. The signature is that of Judge Charles F. Murphy, the Code's head honcho - who would leave the position before the holiday season of 1956. The Code was, of course, a self-defeating backlash against accusations of bad influence from a strange combination of political, religious, psychiatric, and economic establishments. The comics thus depicted are uniformly safe-as-milk titles: No crime or horror allowed under the Code. Lightly scuffed, and in FN/VF condition.
