Description

The Lion King Presentation Cel and Production Background (Walt Disney, 1994). This film represents Disney's renaissance at its apex. This film is the highest grossing hand-drawn animated film in the history of cinema with sales of nearly a billion dollars. It has spawned two direct-to-video feature films (a prequel and a sequel), a Saturday morning cartoon series, a major Broadway touring play, and a live-action film coming out this summer. Its one of the most important films in the history of Disney animation. On February 11, 1995 a special auction titled "The Art of the Lion King" was held in New York. The sale featured original hand-painted backgrounds from the film. Because there were no production cels used in the making of the film, each background included a special "one of one" presentation cel hand-painted by the Disney Ink and Paint Department using archived drawings thus creating the closest thing to a Key Master setup one can own from this film. This pan setup of a young Simba being chased by a hyena was # 72 in the auction. The exceptionally large characters measure 7.5" x 12" and 4" x 9" respectively on a 12" x 37" cel with a Disney seal in the lower right. It is over the original gouache and acrylic background painting from the exact scene. The piece is matted and framed under Plexiglas with a mat opening of 11" x 36" in a 21" x 46" frame. Condition is Fine. Frame is sold as-is.
