Description

The Flintstones Bedrock-Themed Amusement Park Design Art Group of 3 (Hanna-Barbera, c. 1970s). Hanna-Barbera has had rides, shows, park décor and merchandise in theme parks all over the globe. They have been in Kings Island, Carowinds, California Great America, Kings Dominion, Canada's Wonderland, Six Flags, Universal Studios, etc. They have also had themed presence in smaller parks in Mexico, Argentina, Malaysia, New Zealand, and South Africa, to name a few. This lot shows the beginnings of this studio's tremendous success in theme parks. This is a series of three detailed studies of a Bedrock/Flintstone themed "Prehistoric Freeway" ride. These park ride concept drawings are by famed H-B artist Dick Bickenbach (1907 - 1994). He has initialed all three sheets of ledger paper mounted on boards measuring 16" x 18", 18" x 13", and 12" x 16". The first sheet is a detailed drawing of the ride layout, in graphite with extensive hand-coloring and detailed notes on bottom of the ride overview. Second sheet is the "Animals for the prehistoric ride" (cars all on a track). The cars include a "Lizard Limousine," "Dinosaur Bus," "Steg-Car," "Turtle Wagon," "Paddy Wagon," and a "Pterodactyl Car." Last sheet showcases Mastodons that were to be placed along the freeway for décor. Very rare and important lot for Hanna-Barbera collectors. Minor handling and edge wear. Fine condition.
