Bill Ward Cracked #171 Complete 5-Page Story Original Art (Major Publ., 1980). Voluptuous journalist Nanny Dickering interviews a crusty neighbor about his life. At least, that is one way this cryptic story might play out, given the absence of dialogue or narration. Ward drew this yarn in anticipation of added word-balloons, which of course were superimposed for the published version -- just not onto the original art, here. Ward's mastery of the Good Girl Art idiom is patent. His version of Nanny differs from earlier depictions by fellow artist John Severin (Severin had based the character on a real-world interviewer, Nanny Dickerson). Ink, ink wash, and Zipatone shading over graphite on paper. Slight toning, moisture-rippling at the top, creasing, spot-staining, Page 3 has stripped-in panels taped on reverse, with overall handling wear. The dimensions measure 13.25" x 17.25". Very Good condition.
