Clyde Caldwell - Thuvia, Maid of Mars Preliminary Original Art (c. 1980s). Thuvia holds her blade with a loyal Banth by her side in this preliminary painting by Caldwell. The acclaimed fantasy artist produced a series of Barsoom paintings based on the Martian creations of Edgar Rice Burroughs, which were featured in the September 1982 issue of Heavy Metal magazine. This piece was not included, but could have been painted around the same time. Acrylic on illustration board with an image area of 4.25" x 7.25". Toning, paper overlay taped on the back, with foxing/spot staining and light handling wear. Signed by Caldwell in the lower right image area and in Very Good condition.
