It Only Hurts When I Laugh Original Manuscript and Personal Typewriter (1988). Stan Freberg wrote this great autobiography in 1988, which was published by Times Books. It covers his youth, his Army experience, his entry into show business, his rise in the entertainment industry, and his work into bringing comedy into advertising as well as insight into his most heralded work, "Stan Freberg Presents the United States." This original typed manuscript comes with a copy of the book. Stan has labeled the box in his handwriting "Book Manuscript 'It Hurts Only When I Laugh'." There are 341 typed pages; the manuscript was eventually edited down. Also in the lot is one of Stan Freberg's personal typewriters, a vintage Royal typewriter. He can be seen with a different Royal typewriter in a photo in this book, taken at the Algonquin Hotel in 1968. This group includes Stan Freberg's original hand-typed manuscript and one of his typewriters that he used to put his genius down on paper.
