Russ Manning Tarzan in Savage Pellucidar Story Page 34 Original Art (ERB, Inc., 1975). In the early 1970s, Russ Manning cut back on his art chores on the Tarzan newspaper strip to produce four graphic novels for ERB, intended for the European market. The last of these graphic novels was Tarzan in Savage Pellucidar written by Mike Royer. Curiously, these four graphic novels were never reprinted in English, making these pages a real rarity. According to Alex Toth's notes, he ghosted Manning for the story. Considering the profile of the Sagoth in Panel 4 there is an economy of linework that is visually similar to Toth's output in the 1970s, so it's possible that he at least assisted Manning in some way. Regardless of authorship, this is a fine example of the classic pop cultural depiction of Tarzan swinging through trees and brawling with man-apes. Produced in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 11" x 16.25". Moderately toned, with moderate handling wear, smudges, small ink stains, and a 2.5" crease in margin.
