Description

Joe Orlando Panic #7 Complete 6-Page Story "Travel Posters" Original Art (EC, 1955). EC's flagship humor title, MAD, had inspired so many imitations from rival publishers that EC developed Panic as its own riposte to MAD. Orlando rises to the occasion with a wealth of sight-gag goofiness in addition to the basic premise of exposing the ugly truth behind the vacationer come-ons of the travel industry. Lacking MAD's founder, Harvey Kurtzman, as a guiding intellect, Panic relied upon the similarly humorous/cynical Jack Mendelsohn as a key writer. Orlando would develop over the long term into one of DC Comics' more progressive editors. Mendelsohn would find greater prominence with a brilliant and wacky comic strip called Jacky's Diary, and as a contributing writer on the Beatles' Yellow Submarine movie of 1968. This story comprises ink over graphite on Bristol board, with an image area of 13" x 18". The pages average Very Good condition, with toning commensurate with age.
