Description
Jim Starlin and Bill Everett Crypt of Shadows #2 Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1973). A chilling cover of terror by two masters of comic book art... Jim Starlin and Bill Everett! This issue is cover dated March of 1973, so it was likely on the racks just a few weeks (at best) before Everett passed at the end of February that year. Rendered in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". The cover had some changes to it before it was published. The Monster's hand is an original art paste-up with whiteout covering the previous version of the hand just below it. The entire upper header/logo area are original stats, someone has re-blacked them in places with a marker. There is whiteout on several places after the fact to conceal imperfections and to re-blend the hand paste-up into the page. This includes the girl's knees, and the area just to the left of the Monster's hand. There is a piece of whiteout missing on the Monster's wrist, showing bare white beneath.
