Description

E.C. Segar Popeye the Sailor Illustration Original Art (1937). A big cartoon showcase for one of the biggest characters in comics: A rare combination of Segar's well-known Popeye the Sailor with the lesser-known Prof. O.G. Wotasnozzle, of a companion Segar strip, Sappo. Seems Popeye's passion for canned spinach has inspired Prof. Wotasnozzle to come up with a revolutionary new invention. Caption reads: "Olive Oyl: Popeye, it says here in Rural Progress to plant spinach in straight rows!" Ink and grayscale watercolor over graphite on Bristol board. An image area of 20" x 12", framed to 22.25" x 14". Light toning. Excellent condition.
