Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Master Splinter Original Production Cel (Murakami-Wolf-Swenson, c.1987-1989). "I do not wish to fight. But cast a stone into the lake, and the ripples will return to you." In this hand-painted cel Master Splinter explains to his enemy about the way of life through Bushido principle; it's better to be a master, never drawing your sword than a novice, constantly needing to draw it. Meaning that a skilled martial artist avoids conflict, while a beginner lacks control and often leads to unnecessary fighting. The fondly remembered series debuted on 12/14/1987 to massive critical and commercial success allowing it to break out from the comic book medium into the mainstream through cartoons, toys, and movies that are all still being made to this day. The show follows four mutated turtles - Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael - that are trained in the ways of ninjutsu while battling against the evil forces of the ruthless Shredder and the interdimensional invader Krang, all while eating pizza! Shredder was responsible for framing Hamato Yoshi (Master Splinter) for their sensei's murder and the event caused Hamato Yoshi to flee from Japan to New York where he was exposed to a mutagenic concoction that resulted in him turning into the Master Splinter we know and love. The streetwise Master Splinter was voiced by Peter Renaday (1935-2024) who worked on other notable animated shows and feature films such as Walt Disney's Mulan (1998), Gargoyles (1994), and The Pirates of the Dark Waters (1991). The half figure image of the Splinter measures 4" x 5" and is displayed over a print background for presentation purposes. The overall condition is Good to Very Good with minor faded linework, and minor handling wear and edge wear.Auction Info
